The FJ 10 Electric Butter Churn makes it easy to turn fresh cream into real, homemade butter—without the guesswork. Built for consistency and ease of use, it handles the heavy lifting so you can focus on the process.
Cream Preparation
Good butter starts with properly ripened cream.
- Let cream ripen for up to 3 days (minimum: 24 hours)
- Summer: keep between 41–46°F (5–8°C)
- Winter: keep between 46–50°F (8–10°C)
Cream can be stored directly in the churn container
Before You Start
Rinse the churn container with clean water before use
Make sure all parts are properly assembled
Filling the Churn
Typical batch: .3–1 gal of cream
Maximum: 3.8 liters (approx. 0.9 gal)
Fill the container to 10–40% of its total volume
Important:
Ideal cream temperature: 54–59°F (12–15°C)
If cream is colder than 54°F, limit batch size to 3 liters max
Churning the Butter
- Add prepared cream to the churn
- Start on high speed (setting 3–4)
- Churning typically takes about 20 minutes
Once butter forms, stop the machine.
Washing the Butter
- Drain the buttermilk using the bottom outlet
- Close the outlet
- Add cold water through the lid
- Run the churn on low speed (1–2) for a few minutes
- Drain the water
Repeat this rinse process 2–3 times until the water runs mostly clear.
This step:
- Improves flavor
- Removes buttermilk (prevents sour taste)
- Helps firm up the butter
- Removing the Butter
- Remove the center rubber plug to release air
- Lift the lid straight up (do not pry from the side)
- Carefully remove the mixer
- Butter will either cling to the mixer or form a mass in the containe
- Troubleshooting
If churning takes too long, check these:
- Too much cream (should stay below the mixer shaft)
- Wrong temperature (must be 54–59°F / 12–15°C)
- Improper ripening (time or temperature off)
- Low fat content
Sour cream: ~32% fat minimum
Sweet cream: ~45% fat preferred
Proper cleaning keeps your churn running smoothly and your butter tasting clean.
Follow these steps after each use.
